Velocity Diet - New Starter

So, today marked day 1 of my Velocity Diet and training sessions. Although I am a regular gym goer I have never focused much on free weights so I am doing the beginner workouts. Although I have been occasionally hungry over the day, I am pleasantly surprised by how much you can actually eat healthily for the HSM and still keep in the calorie guidelines…loving the veg! Workout was good too so fingers crossed things continue in a positive vein. Only thing I’m gonna miss over the period is not running as I’ve been building up my distances but I aim to do lots of walking and then get back to running afterwards.

Can’t quite bring myself to put up my before pictures but I’m 46, 5ft9.5 and weigh in at 184 pounds, the heaviest I’ve been which is awful. Although I aim to cut 20-30 pounds in weight I am more interested in toning up, getting a better body shape, cutting fat and changing my eating habits.

Fingers crossed!

Forgot to say that I’ve managed all the shakes plus the HSM but I’m not taking any additional fat burners as they really disagree with my stomach!

Taking my measurements tomorrow as don’t have a suitable measure at home so will post those as I feel that is a really sensible way of tracking success. It’s all about how you look and feel.

Day 2.

All going well so far. Slept better than I have in quite a while but feeling a little bit off due to change in diet. However, I do Ramadan each year so this is actually easier than that so I’m positive about this going forwards. Off for a nice strong walk later but not looking forward to that as it’s bloody freezing!!

So, day 3 yesterday was pretty good diet wise. Not feeling hungry between shakes so body is definitely adjusting which is great. Had a long and very tiring day so only got home at 9pm but still dragged myself to the gym to do the romanian deadlifts/lat pulldowns/shoulder press workout. Was gonna be very easy to say leave it and just doze on the sofa but glad I went as felt much better after. Unfortunately I have a strain from the shoulder press (felt it go at 40 reps so stopped straight away…better to leave 10 reps undone than cause real damage!) but after icing etc it is better today than it was so will just manage that carefully and adjust exercises accordingly if necessary. It’s at times like this I am very glad to be married to an experienced PT who specialises in injury rehab!!

Day 4 today and all good so far. Busy morning and afternoon but will head to the gym later to do a nice long incline walk.

So, I used to be pretty damned fit and slim but a series of personal setbacks has seen my exercise and eating regimes disintegrate and the weight pile on. At my age (a massive 46!) the weight goes on easily and is much harder to take off!

I am 177cm tall and started at 184lb (the heaviest I have ever been) and I aim to lose around 25lb as a start although more interested in body shape and measurements.

Horrid pictures to follow!

Bit light headed this afternoon but feeling fine after a nice HSM of grilled chicken and steamed broccoli. Need to wait a bit now, then off to the gym for a nice late yomp on the treadmill although after 3 hours of housework I’m on the way to being convinced that this will be enough NEPA for the day…maybe.

That should be plenty of NEPA

It gets easier (and harder sometimes) as you go along. Keep at it.

Yep…I went for the housework over walk!

Looking forward to an awesome weights session tomorrow morning. Feeling pretty damned enthused!

Good morning day 5…you’re looking rather sparky! Breakfast shake you say? Be rude not to.

Good workout today; sumo deadlifts, incline bench press and wide grip lat pulldowns.

Deadlifts and squats can be problematic for me as I have degenerative disc disease brought on by some serious lower back disc damage a few years ago so it’s more important to me to have correct technique than lift heavier weights incorrectly. So I am pleased that today I did the medium load reps with 35 kilos and back is feeling fine. Will be happy to go heavier next time but little by little. I’ll get there but it’s frustrating though as used to lift a lot more than that!

Looking forward too lunchtime shake now.

Well day 5 generally went very well until the evening when several glasses of wine were consumed with friends who came over for dinner. But I did at least manage to stay away from most of the yummy food I’d made for them so that’s something. Even managed to not eat cheese which for me is nothing short of a miracle!!

Back on the straight and narrow today. A weekend of good diet, NEPA and V-burn challenge.

So hubby has helped massively by ordering himself 2 large pizzas! Strangely enough I’m not even tempted with is great.

Not feeling uber enthused today but diet good and going to do the v-burn challenge shortly so that should boost things a bit.

Beautiful day today and it’s on days like this that I am glad to be living in central London next to Regents Park as went for a lovely NEPA walk.

Right, time to get kit on and workout. Husband def not helping by eating bloody cookies!! Today is day 7 so weigh in and new measurements tomorrow.

V-burn done. Now for some grilled chicken and steamed broccoli/beansprouts.

Slightly nervous about weighing myself tomorrow as don’t think I will have lost as much as I hope but a loss is a loss so we shall see. Gets harder to drop the pounds the older you get!

Feeling disheartened today. Weight loss not great and back hurting a lot so no workout today apart from a bit of arms.

Bugger!!!

OK, giving myself a right royal kick in the arse. Yes I’m pissed off with my body but osteo appointment booked to sort out discs and I’m going for a long walk as that doesn’t hurt the discs but helps keep the muscles from seizing up too much.

Re-focusing on the diet and getting hubby’s help to adapt the workouts slightly so I can work around things later in the week.

Feeling determined.

That’s great passing up the pizza and cookies, he’s just testing ya!

It’s only been a week so keep at it and see about next week’s weigh-in about any changes. Do you see/feel any different ?

Thanks scoots2. I did feel better so was very surprised at lack of progress but allowed myself just a bit of self pity and now back determined. I’ll get there…just get very annoyed with the problems I have with my back and how it limits me at times. It’s effin frustrating!!

Bollocks. Inflamed discs in lower back so no gym allowed for a bit. Had this a few times before and this is not the worst I’ve had so if I look after it maybe only a week or so off the gym and then a gentle start back.

Still, I look at this as just a slight setback! I am still going to do the diet of course but will just cut back on the amount in each shake a little. Speaking of which it’s time for lunch.
