My story is not much different from anyone else I suppose. I was a high school football and tennis player and was pretty fit. Like so many others, during college I took more interest in drinking beer than working out. Now at 30 years old with a wife and a two year old girl, I want to reclaim my life and body. Although embarrassed with my pictures right now, I am posting them to give me motivation to improve. I sit at a desk all day, so physical activity at work is non existent.

I have already lost about 55 lbs. in the past 17 months. I ballooned up to 275 pounds and got sick and tired of being a fat ass. I have already adapted a healthy paleo diet, although I do cheat from time to time. The first 40 pounds came off with diet alone. I have been “working out” at the gym the past four months and it has allowed me to lose another 15 pounds. My current weight is about 215-220.

I am doing the V-Diet to push me through my plateau, give me a plan, and get me to my goal weight. I did my measurements tonight and took these pictures. My V-Diet starts tomorrow (Monday).

From the back. Can’t wait to get a decent body back.

Welcome aboard!

First day is off an running. My morning shake took me longer than I thought to make just because I was careful to measure everything just right and made sure I had everything in there that was required. I thought I would just use my Magic Bullet to blend it up, but it turns out that I need my large blender to get everything in. Now that I know all of this, tomorrow should go smoother.

At lunch today, I shook up another shake and took it with me to my meeting. I have to admit, the group’s burger and tater tots looked damn good and the smell made me hungry. However, I pushed through and sipped on my Strawberry shake. It was interesting to see people eating that stuff and all I could think about was how crappy that food is for your body. Preservatives, fat, sodium, carbs, etc. Made my shake look pretty appealing.

Day two is here. So far so good. Hunger has not been an issue as the shakes seem to keep me pretty full. The bedtime shake is massive! I felt bloated when I laid down to sleep. But, I guess that is better than being hungry. My first workout yesterday went well. I am doing the beginner program, and it seemed a bit easy. I am thinking I need to do more weight.

The workout only took me about 30 minutes which didn’t seem long enough. So I will look into what I can do to make it more challenging. I am thinking more weight, less reps is the answer. For my NEPA, I shoveled my driveway. One of the beauties of living in South Dakota, we get snow six months out of the year. Tonight I plan on taking a brisk outside walk.

I forgot to mention earlier that I did do a body composition scan about a month prior to starting the V-diet. My body fat was 22%.

Anyways, on to day two.

Day two is coming to a close. So far I feel pretty good. I had some hunger issues late this afternoon but I got through them until it was time for my evening shake. I took my two year old daughter for a wagon ride after work today for my NEPA. I also had to make her supper tonight since my wife was at a meeting and it was a bit hard preparing all of her food. Her chicken nuggets smelled pretty dang good. But I made it and looking forward to tomorrow.

My legs are a bit sore from yesterdays workout doing the squats. I hope that doesn’t slow down my workout tomorrow. Anyways, on to day three.

End of day three. Just have my bed time shake yet for the day. I have found that instead of mixing the nut butter in the shake, I prefer to just eat it from a spoon. It is kind of like an end of the day treat.

The workout today was pretty tough, but I got it done. I think with the lack of energy from the reduced calories, it made it more difficult. But it felt good when I was done.

We went to a friends birthday party tonight at a Sports Bar, and I had to dig deep for some extra will power with everyone around me eating burgers, fries, and chicken wings. It also didn’t help that our two year old wanted to sit on my lap and eat her chicken strips and fries! Again, they looked dang good. But I just made my shake before we went and took it with me. I sat there and sipped my shake and water.

On to day four. My energy seems low in general, but hoping that improves.

Good for you making it through the birthday party and so early in the diet, those are the ones that really tax your willpower. I am impressed!

I just talked to my sister in law who has done this diet with amazing results. She told me a trick with the scoop of nut butter at night. She recommends putting it on a spoon and then sticking it in the freezer. Then eat it like a peanut putter Popsicle. Kind of a frozen treat type deal. I had been just eating warm off the spoon. That helped me feel like I was actually eating something instead of just blending it in with my shake. I plan to freeze it tonight.

Anyways, off and running on day four. So far so good. Energy is good today. Although I am a bit sore from my workout and a chiropractor visit yesterday. I slept with an ice pack last night.

I like the frozen peanut butter idea! I’ll have to try that tonight.

Beginning of day 5. Again, all is still well. Other than the food cravings, so far it hasn’t been too tough. Last night my wife had “book club” at our house. So she made a bunch of appetizers, dips, etc. The kitchen was full of all this good tasting food. Again, I refrained. I came upstairs, made my shake and went back to the basement. Will power is definitely needed to do this.

I am doing my workout tonight and feel pretty good, so I am looking forward to that. I did my NEPA walk last night with my dog. I also had my yearly physical with my Doctor this morning. He wanted to do blood work, so I had to go in with an empty stomach. So I couldn’t have my morning shake until about 9:30 today. I was starving by the time I finally drank it.

I am planning my HSM for tomorrow (Saturday) evening. I am going to grill a sirloin steak (organic), asparagus, dry sweet potato, and some fruit for dessert. Not going to lie, I am pretty excited about it.

I am so impressed with the appetizer and dip restraint…that would be my worst nightmare (I almost started a blog once dedicated to dips, because I love them so much). Good job!

I’m so excited for HSM tomorrow as well! I’m thinking chicken cacciatore, a small bit of brown/black rice, roasted carrots, and homemade kale chips. Mmmm, can’t wait!

That sounds good too! Man, now I am getting hungry!

I am having baked salmon with ginger and lemon on a bed of kale and spinach with a roasted red pepper stuffed with couscous and feta, not that I put much thought into it.

#16

It makes me laugh that we all know EXACTLY what we want for our HSM. So funny.

#17

The funny thing is that I wasn’t sure what I was going to have and then I started craving salmon (thought it would be steak, I love my steak) and the decision was made, my body chose it not my head!

#18

Yes ladies, I have been thinking about this pretty much since I started.

Day five coming to an end. I am having a glass of diet tonic water and watching TV now. I had a good workout today and am feeling pretty good. Energy level is fine, but my emotions seem to be a bit raw. Hoping this improves. Still looking forward to my HSM tomorrow.

Hello. I am bdiddy’s wife. Can you post this recipe so I can make it for one of his HSMs? I especially would like to know how you make the kale chips!
