Best Protein Shakes for New Trainer

Arfoncarhart95 asks:

Hi,

I’m a relatively new person at the gym. I’m not unhealthy, my diet is ok. I’m very fit from all the sports I have and do play over the years but I have no muscle and you could say I’m a skinny guy.

I was wondering if you could give me some leads to any great protein shakes I can take after my workout at the gym to increase my growth and strength.

Any information would be great, thank you.

Arfoncarhart95,

A couple of things to consider:

There are protein shakes and there are specialized workout drinks.

Protein shakes are used to replace meals or use with or between meals to increase your protein intake and bump up your calories in a tasty and convenient way. An example of this would be <a href="http://www.t-nation.com/store/products/metabolic-drive-muscle-growth"target=“new”>Metabolic Drive.

Specialized workout drinks are designed specifically for the peri-workout period. (“Peri” meaning just before, during, and just after training.) Generally speaking, these help you train harder, enhance performance, prevent muscle breakdown, and accelerate muscle growth.

If you’re looking for a specialized post-workout drink, look into <a href="http://www.t-nation.com/store/products/surge-recovery"target=“new”>Surge Recovery.

That said, the most advanced, most powerful supplement in that category is <a href="http://www.t-nation.com/store/products/plazma"target=“new”>Plazma. You would pre-load Plazma 15 minutes before training, then have another serving or two during the session. But Plazma is made for those who are pushing their bodies to the point of breaking with advanced workouts and high levels of intensity. Honestly, you may not need it yet if you have “no muscle” and are just now getting into lifting. Or, you may not need the full amount (yet.) One serving pre-training and another serving during would be a good option.

You can click those links above and read about each supplement, then decide which best fits your needs right now.
