Arch's V-Diet Log

Started a day and a half ago actually (right when i got my package in the mail!). I am NOT doing the V-Diet training program. I am doing Starting Strength linear progression.

5’7" and 160 lbs. Current lifts: 235x3x5 squats, 355x2 deadlifts, 150x3x5 bench, 110x3x5 Press, 135x2 Power Cleans. About 8-10 bodyweight chinups, starting each rep from dead hang.

11 AM breakfast - 16 oz whole milk w/ 2 scoops Muscle Milk (my last hoorah to milk before V-Diet)
3 PM lunch - Double bison burger w/ fried egg, whole wheat bun (my last hoorah to solid food before starting V-Diet)

7 PM - V-Diet dinner shake: 2 scoops protein, 2 Tbsp flaxseed, 2 scoops Superfood

Workout 9 - 11PM:
Squat: 45x5, 95x5, 135x5, 185x5, 215x3, 235x5, 230x5, 230x5
Press: 45x5, 65x5, 95x5, 110x5, 110x5, 110x4, 105x5
Power Clean: 95x3, 115x3, 125x3, 135x2, 135x2, 135x1, 125x3
Bodyweight dips: 3x8
Barbell curls: 3x8

12 AM: post-workout Surge Recovery shake
1 AM: Bedtime shake, 2 heaping spoons of natural almond butter (assuming this equaled 210 calories)

Non-training day. Take my V-Diet shakes as planned. I don’t have a blender, and notice that I don’t drink all of the mixed in flaxseed - some of it sticks to the side and bottom of the Blender bottle. So for dinner shake, and the future, I decide to add an extra 1/2 Tbsp.

Also, add unflavored, micronized creatine to my shakes.

Also add psyllium husk flakes to my shakes for added fiber, since I don’t take Fiber Choice tablets. Is 0 net calories, since all of the g of carbs/serving are fiber. This shouldn’t be a problem, right?

Non-training Day. Same as above, except, start taking OxyElite Pro. I had a bottle already, so I didn’t buyt eh HOT-ROX.

Feeling great, except I accidentally take a 3rd OxyElite in the evening before my bike ride, before the 2 I took at lunch time had fully worn off. So, I feel quite nauseous/dizzy from the caffeine and stimulants.

NEPA: Ride my bike around the city for 5-6 miles

Ok, Today I definitely felt fatigued. Was fine at first upon waking, but with two hours by the time I got to work, I felt less alert and more lethargic than usual. Surprising, because yesterday on day 2 and a half of the diet, I was feeling energetic and normal. Guess it took a bit time for the effects to kick in…

Felt super tired and nauseous, probably from lack of calories. I was craving my snack shake, so I chugged that only 1.5 hours after my lunch shake. Had my dinner shake 1.5 hours after that, and decided to go to the gym early an hour after dinner shake, when I was still fresh from that shake.

Pop a packet of Animal Rage.

Feel a bit tired at the gym, even though I was on 2 days rest. Missed my set of squats, had to de-load by 10 lbs… very demoralizing! Almost though of quitting.

Squat: 45x5, 95x5, 135x5, 185x5, 235x4 (missed last rep), 235x4 (shitty form, bad depth, missed last rep), 225x4 (de-loaded 10 lbs, still missed my last rep from fatigue)

Press: 45x5, 95x5, 110x5, 110x4 (missed last rep), 110x4 (missed last rep), 105x5.

Deadlift: 225x5, 275x5, 335x4 (missed 5th rep… and I was supposed to do 345x5… but gave up

Did chinups 3x8 and then called it a day.

Came home, chugged my post-workout shake, hour later chugged my dinner shake. Unfortunately doubled up on the almond butter because I was so starving. :frowning:

Ugh! Is this normal? Is this my body just adapting to the sudden decrease in calories/ will it level out or will i continue to feel as fatigued and see m lifts go down?

Oh yeah, got DEXA body scanned. 160 lbs, 32.4% bodyfat. WTF? Does this sound correct? How can I squat 1.5x BW for 3x5, deadlift 2.25x BW for a double/triple, and be able to do 10 chinups form dead hang… yet be a 32.4% fatass?

Or does this mean I’d be pretty damn strong for my bodyweight if I continue to follow the V-Diet and lose all that fat?

What is confusing is that 1 years ago, I got hydrostatically weighed. Sure it’s not as accurate as DEXA, but still supposed to be the next most accurate thing. It told me I was 11.9% bodyfat. This was when I first started “working out”.

Xagent, welcome to the diet. I’m on day 6. As someone who’s a couple days ahead of you and has done Starting Strength for a considerable period of time, I don’t know if it’s recommended on such a restricted calorie diet. I’m gassed enough doing Medium days, so I can’t imagine loading up for heavy deads. Also, part of the whole point of SS is putting on some mass, which is not going to happen on restricted calories. Out of curiosity, what is your training history? That DEXA is probably wrong unless you an elite lifter since you’d be doing 3x bodyweight DLs if you lost 20% of your BW.
